Introducing LMS Gamification & Online Store

June, 2022

Overview:

To improve engagement with the Learning Management System (LMS) at Kapura, I was tasked with launching a gamification initiative and building an online store within the LMS platform.

The aim was to reward employees with points for completing eLearning modules, which they could then redeem for merchandise and vouchers, creating both motivation and recognition for learning.

Project Breakdown:

  • Boost participation in eLearning by gamifying the LMS experience and introducing an internal rewards store where employees could exchange points for real items. This initiative aimed to:

    • Increase LMS traffic and eLearning module completion

    • Enhance employee motivation through tangible rewards

    • Create a fun, interactive learning culture

    • MS PowerPoint – for designing store buttons and layout mockups

    • Wisetail LMS – for hosting the store and tracking eLearning points

    • SurveyMonkey – to gather feedback from staff on desired store items

    • Company Facebook Group – for internal communications and store launch announcements

    1. Assigned the project by the HR/L&D Manager as a passion side project

    2. Sent out a survey to team managers across all venues in New Zealand to gather input on store preferences

    3. Contacted retailers and suppliers to explore potential partnerships and item sourcing

    4. Created a storyboard for the store layout and reward structure using MS PowerPoint

    5. Assigned points to each eLearning module and configured them in Wisetail

    6. After final manager approval, launched the online store and shared the announcement via the internal Facebook group

  • The gamified LMS and online store significantly improved learning engagement and overall morale. Employees became excited to complete modules and check for new rewards each month. The initiative sparked ongoing enthusiasm for learning and internal development.

  • This project highlighted the importance of visual design in user engagement. At the time, I had no design tool experience, so I worked within the limits of PowerPoint.

That challenge motivated me to upskill in visual design software, and since then, I’ve gained confidence in tools within the Adobe Creative Suite and Canva to create cleaner, more engaging visuals for future projects.
