2025 Senior Leadership Conference

March, 2025

Overview:

As part of the annual Safe Places Leadership Conference, I was tasked with designing and developing all the learning materials for the 3-day event. The 2025 conference focused on critical leadership topics such as self-awareness, communication, handling difficult conversations, and recruitment.

My role was to ensure each session was supported with high-quality learning content that was consistent, engaging, and easy for facilitators to deliver.

Project Breakdown:

A smiling young man surrounded by purple text boxes listing qualities like establishing professional boundaries, working with young people passionately, effective communication, understanding young people's feelings, and staying calm under pressure. There is a disclaimer about finding the right skills for your needs.
  • The objective was to create all content for the 3-day leadership conference, including slide decks, facilitator guides, and activity booklets, covering the following topics:

    • How to be more self-aware

    • Communication foundations

    • How to have difficult conversations

    • Recruitment

    • Figma – for storyboarding and designing the visual style guide

    • MS PowerPoint – for developing the slide decks

    • MS Word – for creating activity booklets and facilitator guides

    • Adobe Illustrator – for developing custom graphics and visual elements

    1. Assigned the project by the OD Manager and Leadership Specialist

    2. Collaborated with the OD, L&D, and Leadership teams to build a comprehensive session plan with timings and learning goals

    3. Partnered closely with the Leadership SME to gather relevant content and brainstorm activity ideas

    4. Converted the session plan into a structured storyboard, outlining flow, key messages, and learner engagement strategies

    5. Presented the draft content and structure to the CEO and COO for feedback and approval

    6. Designed visual storyboards in Figma and refined documentation templates based on feedback

    7. Developed final drafts of all resources (slide decks, facilitator guides, and booklets), and submitted them for senior approval

    8. Delivered the complete training packages two weeks before the event to allow presenters time to rehearse

  • The conference was delivered smoothly and received positive feedback. The training content is now being reused by L&D facilitators as part of leadership development sessions nationwide.

  • One of my key learnings from this project was navigating differing opinions from SMEs. Balancing perspectives while keeping the project goals in focus required strong communication, adaptability, and decision-making skills.

I learned how to filter and prioritise input to deliver a high-quality result aligned with leadership expectations.

  • Four slides from a presentation displayed on a screen, featuring text, tables, charts, and graphics related to session plans, research requirements, surveys, and activities.

    Facilitator Guide

  • Two sheets of paper, one with a group discussion photo and the other with a scoring table, related to a communication case study for a team issue.

    Activity Booklet

Examples from the participant booklets developed to support hands-on learning and reinforce key concepts.

  • Slides from a presentation about communication techniques, including considering your audience, self-awareness and communication, choosing your delivery method, adapting your communication style, and a framework called The Receiver, all in purple and white design.
