Standardising Company-Wide Learning Templates

September, 2024

Overview:

At Safe Places, I led the development of a unified learning material template for all trainers across Australia.

This extensive project included standardising every element, from presentation slide decks and activity booklets to detailed facilitator guides and complete eLearning modules.

Project Breakdown:

Multiple colorful educational worksheets on leadership and team readiness, with titles like 'Situational Leadership Case Study' and 'My Team Readiness', partially overlapped. The worksheet titled 'My Team Readiness' includes sections on directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating, with descriptions and blank spaces for answers.
  • Previously, departments across Safe Places used inconsistent slide decks, activity booklets, and learning materials, leading to varied delivery standards and learner experiences.

This project aimed to design and implement a suite of standardised learning templates to ensure consistency and quality across all teams during facilitation.

    • Figma: Storyboarding and developing the visual style guide

    • MS PowerPoint: Designing the slide deck template

    • MS Word: Creating activity booklets and facilitator guides

    • Adobe Express & Canva: Supporting visual storyboarding

    • SharePoint: Centralised hub for resource storage and access

    1. Partnered with subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify which resources required standardisation and whether variations were necessary based on content type.

    2. Designed a comprehensive style guide for each variation, gaining leadership approval.

    3. Created storyboards for each resource type to map out structure and design, followed by approval.

    4. Developed draft templates, which were reviewed and refined in collaboration with the OD Manager and CEO.

    5. Officially launched the standardised templates during the 2024 Leadership Conference, where their purpose, usage, and storage location were formally introduced to the organisation.

  • The project achieved full adoption across the organisation. The new standardised templates are now used company-wide, resulting in improved consistency and a more professional, cohesive learning experience.

    Style Guide

Before developing the material, I built a style guide in Figma for each of the activity sheet versions.

  • Collection of training and case study documents on communication and leadership, featuring images of diverse teams engaged in meetings and interviews.

    Activities

Sample pages from the standardised activity booklet, designed to enhance learner engagement and align with the new style guide.

  • Slides from a presentation on critical information reports, covering topics such as reporting processes, incident management, report writing best practices, supporting techniques, key sections, report examples, and self-audits.
