2024 Senior Leadership Conference

October, 2024

Overview:

In preparation for the 2024 Safe Places Senior Leadership Conference, I was responsible for rapidly designing and developing the learning content for a company-wide, 3-day leadership event.

The project had a tight two-week deadline and required fast decision-making, collaboration, and delivery.

Project Breakdown:

Presentation slides discussing leadership development topics including delegating, moving from telling to selling, action planning, servant leadership, and assessment. Slides feature text, diagrams, and a photo of people in a meeting.
  • The 2024 conference focused on building leadership capability in line with the organisation’s values and leadership expectations. Key topics included:

    • The Safe Places values

    • The concept of situational leadership

    • The concept of servant leadership

My goal was to create all supporting materials for these sessions, including the slide decks, facilitator guides, and activity booklets.

    • Figma – for storyboarding and building a visual style guide

    • MS PowerPoint – for designing and structuring the slide deck

    • MS Word – for developing facilitator guides and participant activity booklets

    • Canva – for creating visual elements to support the slides

    1. Assigned the project two weeks before the event by the OD Manager

    2. Worked with the OD Manager, L&D Manager, and Leadership Specialist to draft a session plan

    3. Collaborated closely with the Leadership SME to turn key concepts into practical learning materials and activities

    4. Created an initial draft of the slide deck for SME feedback

    5. Presented all draft resources to the CEO and COO for feedback, additional content, and approval

    6. Finalised and delivered all materials just in time for the conference

  • Despite the time pressure, the conference was delivered successfully. The materials developed are now used by the L&D team in ongoing leadership development training across the organisation.

  • This project taught me the importance of planning and delegation. While I completed the project within the deadline, I recognised that I didn’t produce my best work due to the time constraints.

After the conference, I advocated for earlier planning and clearer project timelines. I also learned the value of asking for support and breaking up responsibilities across the team when working on complex, time-sensitive initiatives.

  • A multi-section leadership training worksheet titled 'SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP CASE STUDY - BUILDING CONFIDENCE' with a smaller section labeled 'Action Plan,' including guidelines for 'Keep, Stop, Start' actions, and a purple box titled 'MY TEAM READINESS' with descriptions of leadership styles: Directing, Coaching, Supporting, Delegating. There is an image of a young man with dreadlocks and a beige shirt seated in a room with yellow curtains, with a background of other people.

    Activity Booklets

Pages from the participant booklets designed to support engagement and reinforce key leadership principles.

  • Session plan pages for Servant & Situational Leadership, including topics, times, and activities for a leadership training session.
