Support Office Induction Revision
May, 2024
Overview:
This project involved redesigning the Support Office Induction at Safe Places after feedback revealed that new staff weren’t receiving the necessary information to effectively support the operations team.
I worked alongside the Leadership Specialist to gather feedback, revise content, and update the induction materials with a more engaging structure and visual storytelling.
Project Breakdown:
-
To revise the existing Support Office Induction so that it better catered to the needs of new support office staff.
The aim was to provide clearer, more targeted information to help them understand their role and how to effectively support the operations team at Safe Places.
-
Microsoft PowerPoint – For designing the revised slide deck
Canva – For creating updated graphics (including a journey roadmap)
MS Word – For writing the storyboard and drafting activity sheets
-
The project was initiated based on feedback from new support office staff
I worked with the Leadership Specialist to interview recent induction attendees and gather further insights
I personally provided feedback, having recently gone through the induction myself
We reviewed the original deck and marked irrelevant or outdated content
I developed a written storyboard incorporating feedback and new design ideas
A key addition was a visual roadmap of the young person’s journey with Safe Places
After approval, the slide deck was updated and piloted with a new group of inductees
Feedback forms were collected to measure the impact of the changes
-
The revised induction is now part of the monthly onboarding process and continues to receive positive feedback.
New staff report that the content is much clearer, and the “Journey of a Young Person” visual is consistently highlighted as a helpful addition. The updated induction has improved how support office staff understand their role and how they contribute to the broader organisation.
-
This was my first major project with Safe Places. I learned how to navigate stakeholder preferences, adapt to different communication styles, and tailor content to both user needs and leadership expectations.
I also gained a stronger understanding of how visual storytelling can improve information retention.
-
The Journey of a Young Person
A key visual from the induction slide deck that maps out the experience of a young person entering Safe Places. This helped new staff clearly understand the purpose of their work and the overall care journey.
